An Interview with Jack Hemingway of Kissed Cassiopeia
Kissed Cassiopeia is a solo electronic project by Jack Hemingway (pseudonym). The album chronicles the various encounters through usage of DMT that Jack experienced. Crowd Control is the first of this series detailing the encounters. We collaborated with Jack to create the visuals shown here through Jack's detailed accounts.
"The project started out as a science experiment. I wanted to see objectively what was on the other side of DMT." - Jack Hemingway
What started out as a scientific endeavor quickly spiraled out of control in to a cosmic drama that tells itself. Encounters with aliens, entities, Gods, demons, jesters, eternal edifices of spiritual import. The Big & Tall team met with Jack in San Francisco under strict conditions. We weren't allowed to record him but he agreed to tell us the story with under his pseudonym "Jack Hemingway" A talented singer and instrumentalist he revealed the project with Big & Tall Records;
although voicing this concern: "I just don't want any of this artwork to condone the use of DMT. The drug itself is rooted in a very strange and altered place and it seeks to permanently change all who partake. I only made this work because I needed to show others what I had seen. And I will never do the drug ever again." - Jack Hemingway
When asked what 'Kissed Cassiopeia' meant he told us this:
"While I was doing the drug I was going to a planet in the Proximus Centauri system in the Cassiopean cluster in the Andromeda galaxy. I was visiting a woman (Cassiopeia). During these visitations my skin developed a constellation of freckles under my left eye in the shape of the constellation Cassiopeia. I dubbed this my kiss from Cassiopeia herself. Since it only showed up while doing the drug and being entangled romantically with an alien queen from another world."
he continued about the music:
"I would record the songs all in one take. I would get massively under the influence of DMT and dance for hours before a performance. Then I would perform what I felt and saw on the drug as I was under it's influence. And each part was played only once (or as close to once as possible). The project intention was to be solely music of instinct since this was clearly the only voice that would explain these strange sightings and feelings."
