blocked on platforms 

I was shadow banned by Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google. I posted a video that was considered against their terms and service and somehow all of the other platforms seemed to have blocked the search terms Big & Tall Records due to this video. Turns out it had much more far reaching consequences as our numbers spontaneously began to dwindle the instant we had this viral video. All search term visibility for our tag Big & Tall Records was immediately shadow banned. They were even wise enough to track us down trying to make new aliases to try and get around the bans. Since all of our business relies on the  online transfer of goods (musical digital streaming and digital purchases) in the social media and DSP marketplaces. The numbers that were growing steadily every day naturally suddenly dropped to zero. The growth stopped on all channels and all organic play counts on all platforms began to lessen. In other words they turned us off. We appealed these decisions hundreds of times only to be blocked by Instagram's tech support or accounts being limited. (A symptom and side effect of finding out if you are shadow banned is to try and pull out an ad on any of the platforms and it will somehow break. Any creation of the ad will be stopped and throw errors.) Since the ban 3 years ago we have seen our numbers slowly and continually die. But our site is exploding with interest because of our new way of running a record label and more broadly we believe that right now is a sea-change for the record industry as a whole.

Issues:

Art is inherently a free thing. These current platforms like Instagram, X (Twitter), Youtube, Spotify 

Vastly favor narrative over artwork. Their algorithms designed to suggest material that gets the platforms the most clicks (money), by driving thee clicks towards current narratives in the political world; it has dulled the artist’s voice to a dull background noise; unless the artist is a willing mouth piece for the current narrative. As soon as the artist has out grown their usefulness or kicks against the system at all. The industry chooses instead to bury its opponents even if they aren't directly opposed. Out of convenience they silence everyone contrary to the narrative, since creating nuance and discussion isn't what they are looking for. They are looking instead for a response. A click, an angry message, a share to shame the other party. These pedantic and thinly veiled charade have all but obscured art. Since its quite easy to silence "off-topic" voices through the sheer mass and magnitude of the narrative and propaganda itself. The dust they stir up is so suffocating that it seem as if nothing is happening without their declaring it first. This has hidden the already subtle small voice of the artist. Since what the artist may want to say something different than the current narrative.

At Big & Tall Records we hate this. And we call it what it is: Bullshit (with a capital B). We don't believe artists must create their work for some narrative or serving some political idea disguised in color masquerading as artwork. When it is nothing more than a shameful mimicry of art. This is what artists have been reduced to. You either shout along with the mob or they silence you. 

We all gotta make a buck. Artists gotta make a living too. Not everyone is gonna be famous, but there are a lot of audiences out there. Artists live in a time where matters of the state, politics, and general internet chaos drowns out the artist. With a deck so stacked that its impossible to make enough money to live on. With no transparency, and exponentially more exploitative practices than pre-internet times. Artists can only hope to make a voice if they jump on some political movement or ideology that is popular to try and bolster their careers. Making very poor artist/political activist parodies out of many careers (such as Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and many others) driving artists to conform or to be avoided by the algorithm (or cancel culture), or possibly just overlooked simply because their systems are designed to only favor what is already popular. Which is paid for by millions and millions of ad dollars to propagate such fame in search engine optimization. 

When it comes to record labels and their gold mines; they aren't about to give up their precious cash cows without a fight. It's 'till death do we part. They will own your songs to your grave. And even after you're dead your loved ones may never see any earnings from the artist. Often they put death clauses in contracts disavowing the relatives and un-fit to manage the royalties themselves and instead place in a trust to later be stolen while the label bides their time. If you are in a position like Kanye you are looking at these rivals becomes enemies, these friends become foes, become the governing authority over your intellectual property suddenly. And now you and the entity have beef. What's going to happen to Kanye you ask? For kicking against the machine while being a part of the machine? If you become the squeaking wheel in their gravy train? Would they kill you as they killed others? Would they kill your career for going the wrong way? Would the kill your family? How far would the narrative go to keep a powerful influence like Kanye silent. To take your knight off the table without even a fight? What if he got angry? What if he suddenly realized his peril and drew his sword rather than dying in the Def Jam's graveyard? Kanye's situation illustrates the lengths the media will go to keep powerful people silent. If only they knew their power. To take back what is rightfully yours: the ability to speak in any form you choose.

Since the world has gone digital the idea that artists would be free was only a mirage. In reality the digital world has trapped artists even tighter in their chains than pre-internet days. I’ve watched you episodes regarding Kanye being shut down and leverage of his intellectual property looming over his head unless he changes his public narrative. Labels and DSP (spotify, youtube, instagram) should have no say as to the content of the artist’s expression. The very idea that some royalty hungry system.

Our 1st step is a battery of strict production and musical considerations that the board and I will consider. In other words. My voice is not the only voice at Big & Tall. We have  a strict process of acceptance. 

And the biggest reason for this is multidimensional 

Not only does everyone have to really enjoy the music, but we also have to determine there is a place for it at Big & Tall Records

We send out this form to not only force the artist to flesh out their own goals in to a few sentences, but it will also help us decide whether or not this is something within our power and expertise to help with. 

We have many strong partners, but we are not "famous makers" we have a pragmatic approach to understanding the music industry

We are very goal oriented. And since we are such a lean operation by comparison to much larger entities

We have to be willing to get in bed together. The process is a long process and the agreement by extension is a 3 year agreement. That can only be terminated early by language written in to the contract. 

For example: if you and I have had the discussion that you want Big & Tall Records to help manage your catalogue and that is it. And that if you get signed you want us to release your assets as soon as possible. Then this is a provision we can put in the contract. All contracts are crafted next to the artist, and each step is explained in plain english, and all records and earnings are 100% transparent.

We offer an open contract allowing you to terminate at a moment’s notice. (After a certain term length set by personalized contract details set by the artist) We offer open records, every month we detail all earnings of all sources from all entities, all royalties, and all earnings are presented in a simple and easy to read customized artist earnings chart, an interactive digital chart that allows you to see to the hour, and to the penny exactly how much Big & Tall Records pulled in on your project at that exact moment. We are 100% open books. Every expenditure, ad purchase, transportation cost, food expense is detailed in a simple and easy to read catalogue that can be itemized for internal artist team purposes. Allowing us a the ability to “invest” even further in to our artists. We will constantly always be investing in our artists shows and experiences since its fruitful for all. 

I can show you how to do it all yourself or we can do it all for you. The choice is yours. If you’d rather not know how any of it is happening it’ll still run. If you prefer to know the interworking of exactly how your revenue is being collected you can obtain access. 

Biggest thing we want to help artists with is managing expectations. When you are "signed" it really is a long relationship and we have to be able to work with very closely, closer than even business partners. It is a very close relationship. As we will be changing mixes, offering suggestions, developing ideas alongside you. If this isn't something that you would be comfortable with Big & Tall Records might not be a good fit.

Mind Games

If you’re bothered by technique, if you are worried about your faculties, your physical tangible abilities with your hands, you shouldn’t be. When you worry about technique you are the indy car driver who thinks he needs to be good at turning a wheel, and therefore only sees the wheel. You are the chess player who seeks to place the piece exactly in the middle of the square and he focuses only on that aspect. You are the runner who only knows how to tie his shoes. In other words you’re playing the wrong game. You are playing the game of your own invented fantasy of what the game truly is. The game of chess is to checkmate the opponent or some variations of this. So why are you spending time focusing the incidental placement of the commencement of the action in space? And not the arbitrary rules of the spatial game? Your opponent, who I splaying the game, can see your distraction plainly. And he dominates you. And beyond this when you finally do begin practicing the actual game, the movements that matter, in the finite amount of time given to the arbitrary space of which we all agree, of what a timely manner piece movement, or commencement of the moving a piece should be. In other words the unspoken agreement of which is a “good performance” the perfect timing of a performance. This is also more folly, because you choose the presentation of which you are flowing through time. So this is again peeling back the mask of technique and widening again your perception to view the game anew. So even with you playing the rules of the game you have grown to believe there are correct performances. You’ve been led to believe there are certain guidelines you unconsciously follow. You are staring at the wheel of the indy car hoping you drive right. Then your mind shifts from watching only the wheel, to watching the road thinking he must stay close to the right lines to win. Then he realizes he truly does want this. Then he realizes that the passion of why he toiled is right in front of him. Then he begins to drive with purpose. He begins to move unconsciously, reactively, spontaneously, using this monumental achievement of the natural world to the best of his or her abilities. The autonomic nervous system. Is our chess piece. We shouldn’t be grooming and persuading our nervous system to obey, we should feel the grandness of one’s purpose and the hands act accordingly. The mind thinks in a flow. 

Its this thinking of thinking…. Of thinking that breaks the man’s mind. It crushes his hands, its ego mirror staring in pure dismay at the form of his confusing existence. To not think of existence is the purity of existing. To not pursue to think of your form is the purest existence of itself. A child. It is pure existence. It only knows itself plainly, and the sensory world around him plainly. As Allan Watts puts it: "You are the organism and the organism environment.” You are both the construct you believe about the universe, AND the objective reality that imposes itself upon you of which you can only comprehend in shallow ways. Through or shallow touch of Richard Dawkins “Middle World” the sensory perceptions that allow us our little windows into what the universe can show us about the nature of ourselves. We can gaze in this mirror of recognition of your imperfection, the manifestations of your ego, or you can gaze in to the world of the unknown. That is to say the unknowing of life. The purity of the sensory world without your projections upon it. The exploration of senses, to instead feel, to feel and not taint the feeling, OR to taint the feeling and realize what you are doing, to paint with an emotion the axis of the expression of the ocean waves at dusk, to paint these sensory moments with the dimensions of which only the human spirit can comprehend, the axis of which depth of the inner world expresses its senses upon the inner universe. The meanings to us of the sensory world around us. The expression of our projection of the beauty of its artfulness and confluence of mathematical intricacies that bend the mind to their objective beauty, and bending our form, since our form is it, and we stand in awe, in equal reverence to the wash of the expression of a wave upon the beach, bathed in light, the exultation of the flowering mankind upon her shore observing her beauty, her beauty creating, and preserving us. Homeostasis, mathematical glory, all knowing of the spiritual apparatus within us to BE. To BE to BE. To create from a place that doesn’t need approval of mankind, but instead is alongside mankind in pure uncensored ballet and cacophony of noise and existence. To create from a single, as Steven Pressfield explains, as the "sacramental center” this place that as I understand that is the untouchable aspect of man. The aspect of man for himself alone to care for. The should and spirit and body you’ve been entrusted to create with. The mind body spirit connection that you are embarrassed of, that you are afraid of. The one in the mirror that drives you mad. So you seek to distract yourself from your own visage. Your own folly. This sacramental center is actually the beauty of perfection of which we can’t perceive. What we perceive as bad, or not good, or ugly. Is still an expression of perfection. The whole of life made this rule: That when a man is abandoned of himself he discovers himself, when a man is devoid of material possession, he discovers himself. There is a law in nature that has through its beauty created laws like gravity, and super position, and the Higgs boson. And equally so has encoded in our nature a rule that if you do not notice yourself you will notice the world. That if you do not possess you will be possessed by more than you can understand. That when you free your mind you were in fact free the whole time. 

These mind games we play. The games within games within games within games. First you play chess by worrying about where the piece sits in the square, then you worry the exactness of the rules, and whether or not you’re doing the right moves, then you realize that you can get in to your opponents head, and then you discover a new game, then you discover your mind thinking about all of these aspects at once, to reveal yet another complicated game of which can make you an even better chess player. But there is a moment at which the ability to understand technique breaks down, and one has to open one’s mind to create a higher orbit of understanding and momentum to be in a more pure dance with the cosmos and his own mind. To be in a higher frequency. Or what in the music world people refer to as plateaus. Of which I don’t like the analogy because it imposes this hard structure under your feet and that there again is a set of rules and a point at which you’ll “arrive” so I think by the very terminology we damn ourselves to thinking in a straight line of rules and systems of rules, to only break out of. Like puzzles society has placed in front of you to transcend. This is true. When does one graduate? When one can see its whole design, and when one can perceive it's design further. Not before. So I prefer the analogy of the further orbit, because the further you get away the bigger the picture and the further designs, and the beauty of which you can perceive of the designs. So we went from staring at the wood of a chess board and worrying about our molecules to shooting through all of space and time orbiting ourselves playing chess upon the earth. Then the inevitable question, but does all of this philosophy work? Floating around never learning enough technique to be see as “relevant” no it's not an answer. You must learn technique, and proficiency if you are to be relevant among mankind. But realize it's all a game within a game within a game to live on this planet. And realize that at any moment you can depart from the relevancy and disappear into obscurity of some other endeavor, when you have “lost your way.” 

So in conclusion, if it is games within games within games you play within your mind you are only wasting your time by showing yourself the paradox of your insides, the fractal that flows inward showing itself to a mirror only creates a parallel universe that is the negative universe of himself. He shows his fractal form to the mirror to see what is inside and drives himself mad with this revelation. To see the void inside oneself, the event horizon of your consciousness in to a void of no space time. A world that cannot be grasped by the universe herself peering in to you. She would be just as scared of you as you are of yourself, equally perplexed possibly. Maybe looking at our inner universe and wondering what the hell happened there. Maybe she messed up. These crabs seem fine. And those deer, they’re alright, but seems like these humans here were sort of a combination of looking at a magic eye illusion and pure self awareness, but never to bother herself with the idea again because she’s got too much thinking about what a “weird” strange universe she is. Having her first shroom trip looking at the little eddies of consciousness swirling inside of her dare I say like her “demons”? What if the universe is observing her inner world frightened of the possibility that within her is something she cannot perceive. That the flow within her seems to have a consciousness and an order of which she may never perceive. So to look in to ourselves is no less maddening. And thusly the world of distraction, the world of waste, the world of the negative appears…. Ahhh and in this is our equation. The world we see is not the summation of greed and lust, and people “gone bad” or corporations, the world we see in front of us is the summation of consciousness and our inability to deal with this consciousness in any reasonable way. We are looking at the games and games within games we are playing to deal with our reality, the summation of all human existence and all of our folly is the denial of our inverse. It is the recognition by every man woman and child that we cannot understand ourselves. And we go seeking to find solace in this, and we find distraction, we find games, we find people who will act like bro’s to us, girls who will justify putting unnatural material in to their faces and bodies, without truly knowing what a body is. But then we stumble into a contradiction. And I love contradictions. Especially when I am able to see them. So I say “don’t think about yourself don’t get caught staring at yourself in the mirror and be frozen by your complications.” Yet I imply it is bad to be a woman who “Justify’s putting unnatural substances into her body to inflate her beauty.” Yet she is doing what I am saying to do. She is not thinking about her form, she is diving face first into change, and in that way is possibly more admirable in the abandon she shows than us sitting here trying to force ourselves into some higher conclusion which of course itself…. Is absolute folly. So the whole of this talk was a joke that a buddhist monk might play upon one of his pupils. To make you think that I have something to offer but the joke is always to bring you out in to the stars to bring you right back down to your ass. You boring plain ass sitting in a chair to realize you are stuck in your mind, and that you cannot escape it. But not in a way that should hurt, hopefully you should feel a sense of calm in your aspect. Because this apparatus has been passed down through ritual and generations of people who have thought of futility as deeply as any other man, and the function of these lessons of futility is because man has genetically learned over the course of millennia, that the recognition of the cyclical impossibility of existence is therapeutic. And that realizing that life will change, but that you have little influence over it, and that most of the influence you need to be paying attention to is your experience in your own universe. And that it is good, and that it is ordered, and neat, or how you see fit to dress it. Truly this is about decorating your universe since you must live in it. And that it should be cozy, with a red couch in the corner where you go to think about your ego, with you mirrors around to glance occasionally and be intoxicated with the strangeness of your being, to the other corner where you have a cache of information on your instrument, to the sexy part of your universe where there is love and lust. And to look at it equally, unashamed and realize you made it all. And glancing then out to the objective world that especially in the digital age, you have done little to change its physical presence directly. Did you ever once affect gravity? Or change the state of a water molecule with your own energy. Not the energy of some device you’ve created. Just the energy of what mankind naturally are. No, you’ve done little. Maybe a man owns a mining operation. But how much earth has he displaced with his own hands? Very little, and probably happened when he was a child. So to look outwardly, to see that you can climb a tree, you can feel the cold of a river, and be a part of it, you can have wonderful food that fruits from the earth. You can take from the air, the mixture rich in nitrogen and oxygen that we need. So we are the environment, and your surroundings MASSIVELY affect you, whether or not you believe this about yourself. Thats why you must pay very close attention to grooming the mind, body and spirit that you have to live with. Don’t let others shape you. They don’t have to live in you. You do. And of course we are mostly empty space, we are like a cloud of matter flowing through time. To never once again return in the same state of matter to the exact place and state of which you are existing right now. The void of creation, its burden to never end, to the next steps boldly and willingly! To have a body that was used up, and a mind that adorned for his embalmment and transcendence by the time for your demise, not an easy lived existence, an existence that was a ride through time.
